Norwegian Voyage

It’s a long way to Norway, what better way to travel than by longboat? Join me in celebrating Norwegian culture as we sail the Scandinavian seas. The Norwegian Voyage edition of the 2025 Around the World program features a center circle of water, churned by the silhouette of Viking longboats that represent a part of distant Norwegian history. The colorful background is modeled after a traditional art style called “rosemaling”, or “rose painting”, which was introduced in rural Norway during the 1700s and continued in popularity for hundreds of years. The outer border was inspired by a wooden architectural theme called “dragon style”, which originated during the Norwegian Romantic Nationalism and is found in famous buildings including the Dalen Hotell. The center knot is a tribute to early Norwegian influence on Western European isles and modern day art.
